My Thoughts, Experience and Opinion on Joey Albert’s Actions

JOEY ALBERT – Joey Albert is a Filipino singer best known for singing hits like “Tell Me” and “Over and Over”. She moved to Vancouver some years ago.

Joey Albert appeared to be a very good friend of Luisa when I first met her. The only time I ever seen her was when we were either supporting her events, going to her shows, interviewing her on our TV show, Luisa performing and donating her time and talent for Joey’s concert or supporting her own TV show “The Joey Albert Show” (which is no longer airing).

As far as Luisa was concerned, everything was going well with their friendship until Joey Albert started her own tv show in October 2011, called the Joey Albert Show, which lasted for a only a short time. Our tv show had been on air for over 2 years already before the Joey Albert show aired it’s first episode.

Just like Janice Lozano, Joey Albert surprisingly started to create an issue on Facebook insinuating we are copying her. Joey Albert posted a comment on Luisa’s public Facebook wall post which Luisa was promoting our special episode featuring a former Vancouver policeman. I confronted Joey Albert about this and it became a big issue. I’m putting this here again because Jojo Quimpo conveniently neglected to mention the fact that Joey Albert started this issue.

I re-read the Joey Albert “copycat” issue since Jojo Quimpo brought it up and I realize It’s like deja vu. Almost 4 years ago, I’m defending myself from accusations on Janice Lozano’s Facebook wall. Then almost 2 years ago, I’m defending myself from Joey Albert’s accusations on Facebook. And here I am again having to defend myself from attacks on Jojo Quimpo’s Facebook wall. Interesting enough they seemed to be all together as friends now.

The Joey Albert “copycat” issue was available to read online almost 2 years ago, here it is online again.

NOTE: The information below was written by me almost 2 years ago with the intention to defend my wife’s reputation.

Are We Responsible to Defend Ourselves From Attacks On Our Reputation?

by Steve Marshall

Does anybody have the right to state unfounded and misleading accusations that will damage another person’s reputation and integrity? If this happens to you or someone you know, would you accept this kind of behaviour? What would you do if these attacks don’t stop? Do we have the responsibility to defend ourselves?

I decided I will stand up and defend our reputation. I am Luisa Marshall’s husband, manager and producer. I will not tolerate anyone who makes unfounded allegations against my wife, my family and the people I care about.

It is a difficult decision for me to involve the general public but I have no choice because this person continues to create misconceptions about Luisa Marshall to the public without providing evidence to support her accusations. I can tell you that my wife feels deeply hurt by the actions of someone she considered a friend, a fellow and TV host whom she admired and supported for years.

Since November 2011, a dispute has arisen in the public eye between Filipino superstar Joey Albert (also known as Joey Pacis) and Luisa Marshall. Ms. Albert has publicly made unfounded and misleading accusations against Luisa Marshall on Facebook and through e-mail.

CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER OF COMMUNICATION WITH JOEY ALBERT. THE LINKS BELOW WILL PROVIDE A COPY OF EACH EMAIL AND FACEBOOK CORRESPONDENCE AS NOTED IN EACH SECTION.

Joey Albert started this issue with Luisa Marshall when she posted “hmmm…Not entertainment? format looks familiar…” on Luisa’s PUBLIC Facebook wall on November 14/2011.

Ms. Albert must have just watched our 95th episode of SIMPLY THE BEST – THE LUISA MARSHALL SHOW on Nov 14/2011. Our interpretation of her commentary is that Joey Albert is under the false impression that we only feature entertainment and is insinuating that we are copying her format. Luisa Marshall responded back to Ms. Albert on Facebook explaining our format and asked that if she has any more concerns to send an email or private message. You can view Ms. Luisa Marshall’s response in the link above. Joey Albert did not respond to Ms. Marshall. If you look closer you will see Ms. Albert later changed her Facebook profile picture to an “I HATE COPY CAT” logo.

The clear implication of Ms. Albert’s Facebook comment when coupled with her “I Hate Copy Cat” logo appears to be that the Luisa Marshall show is somehow copying the format or idea of Ms. Albert’s own television show. This implication has not been denied by Ms. Albert in our correspondence with her.

I wrote her a letter via email (November 29/2011) explaining why we believe that her assertion that we are copying her is incorrect and misleading. I gave her facts to show we have had many guests that have nothing to do with entertainment. I provided proof that we adjusted the name of the show to include THE LUISA MARSHALL SHOW and have been using that additional title for 8 months prior to the first episode of THE JOEY ALBERT SHOW. I also asked Ms. Albert questions regarding her concerns on this matter.

Joey Albert’s email response to my letter was “Thanks, Steve Marshall : )”. That was it. She did not debate my proof and she did not answer my questions.

Before Joey Albert had a TV show, we have had almost 100 episodes on Shaw Multicultural Cable 116 for the past 2 years featuring many non-entertainment guests. Why does she appear to think we are copying her format?

Luisa and I attempted to keep this issue private and professional between ourselves, Joey Albert and her TV show producer, Rey Fortaleza (of ReyFort Media). I told Rey Fortaleza that we can only resolve this issue if Ms. Albert would provide facts to support her claims, or if our facts proved her claims are incorrect, an apology should be in order. That is only fair.

Instead of resolving this matter in a private way, Joey Albert responded back to us with an email on Dec 3/2011 and cc’d other people that had nothing to do with this issue. Why did Ms. Albert involve people that had nothing to do with this issue? What is her motive? In this email, Joey Albert stated further unfounded allegations concerning Luisa’s behaviour towards her. Unfortunately, I had no choice but to include these cc’d people in my responses back to Ms. Albert.

In my second email (Dec. 3/2011) to Ms. Albert, I attempted to resolve these new issues that she claimed Luisa did to her. Ms. Albert never responded nor forwarded any facts or proof to support anything she has stated against Luisa Marshall.

However, we still heard from members of the public that Joey Albert was still saying disparaging, hurtful, untrue and unwarranted things about Luisa Marshall. Concerned that she would not stop, I sent her an email on Dec 15/2011.

Joey Albert emailed back that she had no intention of responding to our emails, that she had nothing to apologize for, and told me to sue her.

I answered to Ms. Albert’s Dec 16/2011 email to express my personal opinion with regards to her response.

The important question remains. Why is a big Filipino celebrity like Joey Albert publicly accusing Luisa Marshall of wrong doings without providing any proof?

I hope this information clarifies my position regarding Joey Albert’s unfounded allegations against Luisa Marshall and our TV show. If you have any concerns please email or call me and I will be happy to provide further information.

Regards,

Steve Marshall

For your information, Luisa Marshall has no problem, whatsoever, communicating her position on any type of issue in any given situation and would welcome an opportunity to openly have a fair and professional discussion with Joey Albert in person, privately or publicly, regarding Ms. Albert’s issues.
