My Thoughts, Experience and Opinion on Janice Lozano’s Actions
JANICE LOZANO – For those that don’t know Janice Lozano, she is one of the producers of the defunct TV show called Pinoy Buzz (as of this writing) that originally aired on Shaw Multicultural Channel 116 at 9:30pm after our show. The show has not been on air or in production on Shaw 116 for over a year since mid July 2012. (Up to now Sept 14/2013)
Many months before July 2012, Pinoy Buzz moved from the primetime spot after our show every Monday at 9:30pm and moved to 2 time slots that I think were 3:30pm on Thursdays and Monday at 11:00am. As of this time I’m writing this letter (Sept 15/2013), the Pinoy Buzz tv show has long been off air and not in the prime 9:30pm time slot I see it advertised online and in the Dahong Pilipino Filipino Business Directory.
I would like to clarify the history of our TV show in relation to Janice Lozano, Roque Juatco Jr. and Pinoy Buzz. Simply the Best TV show was the brainchild of Elena Aikenhead. Elena approached my wife Luisa and myself to produce the show in or around October 2009. We originally aired the show for 10 weeks every Monday at 9:00pm until 10:00pm for 1 hour. At that time, we were the only locally produced talk show with a Filipino influence that highlights interviews with celebrities, politicians, inspiring people and much more. We were clearly the first locally produced Filipino Canadian talk show that also interviewed celebrities in Vancouver in a long time. As far as we know, the first may have been locally produced shows with Annie Miles and Marilen dela Cruz in the 80’s or 90’s. So Pinoy Buzz is far from the first.
How Pinoy Buzz started and our first encounter with Janice Lozano and Roque Juatco Jr.
Elena Aikenhead suggested to us another show concept called Pinoy Buzz. She talked to us and asked if we would be willing to sign off to allow her Pinoy Buzz show to take over the second half hour of our one hour time slot. We gladly agreed because the 1 hour time slot was too much work and the initial idea/concept of the show Pinoy Buzz was completely different from ours in principle. Pinoy Buzz was originally going to be a entertainment “tsimis” show about celebrities from the Philippines. We had no problem with that except when Pinoy Buzz started its initial episodes on air. According to Elena, they apparently bypassed her as their tv show supplier and went directly to the network and then appeared to changed their format.
A few important points:
- We gave Pinoy Buzz their time slot on Shaw Multicultural 116.
- I personally videotaped for free the first Pinoy Buzz demo of Janice Lozano and Roque Juatco Jr. so they could quickly get approved by the network.
- Roque Juatco Jr. came to my house himself and picked it up.
- We promoted them.
Not too long after that (in 2010) a Facebook issue was started on Janice Lozano’s Facebook wall by her friend Cecille Cabrera saying all sorts of unfair things against Luisa and our tv show. I did a big fact filled response on her Facebook post to defend ourselves from the attacks of Cecille Cabrera. The reality is, Janice Lozano allowed Cecille Cabrera’s comments attacking Luisa on her wall. That is when the tension started between us and Janice Lozano, Roque Juatco Jr. and Pinoy Buzz. They started the issues with us even though we helped them. I wasn’t going to sit back and allow them to get away with this foolishness.
